About that store-bought candle: Sheryn had returned home after running errands for a couple of hours. Upon entering their home, she smelled an unpleasant, frightening odor that both she and Vernon agreed smelled "like gas." As Sheryn neared the burning candle, the odor grew stronger until Sheryn decided to extinguish the candle's flame. It was then that she realized that the candle smelled like gas.
Serendipitously, a few days later, the Greenes received a magazine that presented a business opportunity: making soy candles. After making the initial contact expressing interest in starting a home-based business, the Greenes received a free candle kit that would produce one five-ounce candle. After making the candle, Vernon and Sheryn were amazed at the how clean the candle burned -- and the aromatic scent of the soy candle.
The Greenes learned that the vegetable and soy wax compound slow burns at 120 degrees, which contributes to more even, longer-lasting scent distribution.

Sher's Soy Delight, a home-based enterprise,
was formed in January 2009. Sheryn and Vernon Greene based their business model upon the creation of something that they both liked and at which they excelled: the fine art of candle making using soy wax. Their immediate spark of creativity was borne while burning a store-bought candle when they realized that they could bring a more innovative, fun product to the market.
